How the App Works

Password Generation

All password generation occurs locally on your device using cryptographic algorithms. Generated passwords never leave your device and are not transmitted over the internet.

Local Storage (Optional)

You may choose to enable password history to store previously generated passwords on your device. When enabled:

  • Passwords are stored locally in encrypted format using AES-256 encryption
  • Your device's biometric authentication (fingerprint, Face ID, etc.) serves as the encryption key
  • Only you can access stored passwords through biometric verification
  • This feature is entirely optional and can be enabled or disabled at any time in Settings
  • App settings and preferences are stored locally in shared preferences on your device

Data Control

  • You have complete control over stored data through the in-app settings
  • All locally stored data is immediately deleted when you uninstall the App
  • Premium subscribers can export their password history to JSON or CSV format, which is copied to the device clipboard for your use

Permissions and Why We Need Them

The App requests the following permissions to function:

Clipboard Access

  • Purpose: Allows you to copy generated passwords to your device clipboard for easy pasting into other applications
  • Scope: The App only writes to the clipboard when you explicitly tap the copy button; it does not read from your clipboard

Biometric Authentication

  • Purpose: Used as an encryption key to secure your optional password history feature
  • Scope: Biometric data never leaves your device and is handled entirely by your device's operating system; we do not access or store biometric information

Internet Access

  • Purpose: Required solely for displaying advertisements through Google AdMob
  • Scope: No passwords or user-generated content are transmitted over the internet

Notifications (Optional)

  • Purpose: Sends optional reminders if you haven't generated a password in a few hours, helping you maintain password hygiene
  • Scope: Notifications are generated locally on your device and can be disabled in your device settings or in-app preferences

Advertising and Monetization

Google AdMob Integration

The free version of PWD uses Google AdMob to display advertisements, including:

  • Banner ads
  • Interstitial ads
  • Rewarded ads (optional, for unlocking features)

AdMob Privacy Practices:
Google AdMob may collect and process certain information for ad personalization, delivery, and measurement purposes. This may include:

  • Device advertising identifiers (such as Google Advertising ID or IDFA)

PWD offers an optional "PWD | Premium Subscription" which:

Payment processing is handled by Google Play Store or Apple App Store, and their respective privacy policies apply to billing information.

Data Retention and Deletion

  • Local Data: Any data stored locally (password history, app settings) remains on your device until you delete it through the App or uninstall the App
  • Immediate Deletion: All locally stored data is permanently deleted when you uninstall PWD from your device
  • No Server Retention: Since we do not collect or transmit data to servers, there is no data retention on our end

Security Measures

We implement the following security practices:

  • AES-256 Encryption: Optional password history is protected with industry-standard AES-256 encryption
